Founders’ Update:

Throughout April, I was reminded about how great of a place to do business Edmonton really is.  In both formal and informal ways, the Edmonton startup community has welcomed FeynMed Solutions to the scene, with good connections, practical advice and support.  Special shout outs to Startup TNT and BioAlberta, who provided opportunities for us to publicly share what we have been working on to the startup community at large.  The strength of the Edmonton/Alberta startup ecosystem was on full display at Toronto based investor conferences, where we ran into the founders of many Alberta based companies including: NanosticsDX, PulseMedica, Fluid Biomed and RNARevive.  If you ever want to see how to get the most out of a conference, follow Nina from ReviveRNA.  We have a strong and supportive life sciences ecosystem thriving here in Edmonton that I am excited to contribute to.

Progress and Regulatory Milestones:

We are continuing work with Deffai towards achieving regulatory approval, refining our Q-submission to request FDA feedback prior to the 510(k) submission.

-We have identified appropriate predicate and reference devices.

-We have identified testing procedures to demonstrate antimicrobial efficacy, safety and biocompatibility.

Non-Dilutive Funding Achieved:

FeynMed Solutions was awarded $300,000 in grant funding through Alberta Innovates under the “Accelerating Innovations into CarE” program (AICE).  This funding will enable validation and pre-clinical testing needed to move our nanocrystalline silver thin film dressing through regulatory approval and commercialization.

FeynMed Solutions is receiving funding of up to $30,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) Youth Employment Program. This funding will enable the hiring of a graduate to support our research and development project entitled “Preparation for Commercialization of Nanocrystalline Silver Dressings” in 2026.

Presentations and Event Attendance:

April provided numerous opportunities to present what we are working on here at FeynMed, both in terms of the science and business development.  Highlights include:

Startup TNT hosted a pitch competition, where Jason Watt presented. They ran a fast and furious event with 19 pitches at 2 minutes each. Zach, Tim, and the team kept the energy high and we met a lot of great people. You can check out all the pitches at https://www.youtube.com/live/Lr7yTeGBrss?si=H5Y5e2h2dbgwAV7W.

BioAlberta, which has been another amazing resource, gave Jason a chance to share about what he learned in his first year in life sciences at the Prairie Bioeconomy GUILD. The key take aways were that fundraising is hard, the science is fun and amazing, and the people are wonderful to work with.

Patricia Nadworny and Charlotte Bradley attended the Symposium of Advanced Wound Care (SAWC), Spring 2026, put on by the Wound Healing Society (WHS) and the Wound Care Collaborative Community (WCCC).  There they presented posters entitled "Impact of unique process on chemistry and antimicrobial activity of nanostructured silver" and "Comparison of various ultra-small and nanotechnology-based products for wound care".  The posters were well attended, by both incumbent advanced wound care companies and new players, highlighting one of the major take aways from the conference: despite the number of companies already in the space, there are more than enough problems left to solve.

Jason Watt and Tyler Boone travelled to Toronto to attend the Mintz Early-Stage Life Sciences Networking Event, the Bloom Burton & Co. Healthcare Investor Conference (BBHIC 2026) and MaRS Impact Health.  In addition to meeting with life sciences investors, and learning about the overall state of life sciences ecosystem, there were many discussions with fellow founders, service providers, clinical trial sites and potential end users for our dressing.  Special thanks to François-Thomas from Feldan Therapeutics.  He has been wonderfully generous with his insights, time and contacts.  If you are interested in an exciting biotherapeutic company run by an amazing person, check out Feldan.
